There are 3 main ways to get permanent residency.
Skilled Migration
Skilled migration has two types of programs.
Employer Visa
This is also known as a sponsorship visa. You need to get a job offer to get this visa. There are two temporary and one permanent visa under this category.
Temporary Skill Shortage Visa (subclass 482)
Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (Provisional) Visa (subclass 494)
Employer Nomination Permanent Visa (subclass 186)
General Skilled Migration Visa
This one is for skilled workers. You need to have qualifications or experiences in work that are listed on their occupations list. Under this type, there are two types of permanent visas.
Subclass 189 (Independent Skilled)
Subclass 190 (State/ Territory Sponsor)
Temporary Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) (subclass 491)
Business Migration
This one is for business owners. Australia has a growing economy. Many multinational companies have branches there. You need to have at least 4 years of experience in business or you have directly operated or managed a business. The permanent visa under this category is Subclass 188 (Business Owner).
Family Migration
For this category, you need to get sponsorship from your partner or child who has PR or Australian citizenship. Under this type, there are two types of permanent visas.
Partner Visas
Parent Visas
Student Visa
You can get a student visa to Australia. Take the courses that can lead you to the skilled occupation listed jobs. There are two visas under this category.
Graduate visa or 482 TSS visa to gain work experience.
Skilled or Employer Sponsored, you can apply under subclass 189 or 190.
Subclass 186 visa
Work for an Australian business for 3 years.
Get sponsorship from an Australian business on a subclass 482 visa.
DAMA or Designated Area Migration Agreement visa
Steps to Get PR
Find out your requirements. Check what visa can work for you, your occupation in the occupation list, and the required documents you need to apply.
You need to take the skills assessment test according to your courses. And earn the required points.
Visa 189, 190, and 491 are point-tested visas. You need to get points for these visas. There are some categories and specific points under each category. The minimum point is 65.
Age- point 0-30, minimum 18 years, maximum 45 years.
Education- points 0-20, depending on a person's educational degree.
Work Experience- points 0-20, depending on the job type and years of experience, and location.
Proficiency in English- need to earn 0-20 points in the English language test.
Extra 5 points if you have studied in Australia for at least 2 years with a diploma or trade certificate.
Extra 5-10 points for study in regional Australia.
Extra 5 points for a translator of another language.
If your partner has a skilled occupation and/or competent English with a minimum level, you can earn extra 5-10 points.
4 points for a professional year.
5/15 points for nominations/sponsorship from an Australian state.
Point 6 in English proficiency test.
Submit an Expression of interest via SkillSelect to get an invitation from the government.
Apply for the visa with the documents.
